Media awards 2008
Choice number 1- Rapper’s ambition
This trailer attracted my attention mainly because it related to the sort of culture which I like, and the trailer told a story about an unsigned artist’s struggle to try and become an inspirational rapper in the music industry. It taught me that even though life faces problems right in front of you, you should just keep your head up high and get to where you need to in order to follow your dreams. The camera angles used within this production symbolized the different appearances of the actors, for example, the camera angle was faced upwards for the actor which was the top m.c in the production, which presented him as being powerful, strong and hard, whereas the angle used for the unsigned rapper was front on so we could see how small he was compared to the rest of the world from the troubles he faced at the beginning of the trailer. Also the camera shots gave the production a dramatic effect which attracted the audience’s attention. Furthermore, I could see how much work was put into the production to produce such a fantastic outcome, as they had used their own soundtrack for the trailer and showed us they spent a lot of time into making this production.

Choice number 2 – face of fear
I picked this film in the top 3 as I thought this production was an excellent representation of what students at this school can produce if they set their minds to their work. The genre of the film was horror, and this was given away straight away from the horror based sound track, and the font of the messages at the beginning of the film also helped give away the genre. The acting within this production was good and I think the main character of this production should have been chosen as the best actor of media awards 2008, as he clearly played the role he was supposed to, and even the rest of the audience enjoyed watching him in the production. The camera angles focused on the surrounding of the actors so the sense of a horror movie was created as we kept focusing on the rest of the area if there was anything there. Also, the angles focused on the actors expressions so the audience could see how they were feeling at different times during the film, and we could see how there feelings had changed from the beginning of the film to the end. Also the camera angle used for the villain had shown him as being scary, powerful and invincible, which added to the effect that this film was a horror.

Choice 3- silent pain
This documentary was probably the one production that had the greatest effect on me. It was about the issue of martial rape and how the police refused to look into the matter as people think a wife can’t be raped by her husband. The documentary included the account of a victim, who experienced it herself and the problems she had faced, as she didn’t know if the police would help her out and she didn’t know who to tell or who to look for help.
